Day 1: Welcome to Jotunheimen

Renowned for its towering peaks, glaciers, and lakes, this region beckons adventurers with its rich history and myth. Known as the "Home of the Giants," Jotunheimen is a haven for nature lovers and a treasure trove of historical gems. This is where you start your journey through this spectacular landscape, where every trail tells a story and every vista connects you with Norway's ancient legends and vibrant heritage.

On this first night you can choose between the following hotels:

Hindsæter Hotel

The historic hotel, built in 1898, offers 10 romantic alp suites and 7 double rooms, each carefully designed to create a unique atmosphere. The alp suites carries the imprint of the site's rich history, with authentic furniture that tells stories dating back to alp culture. Enjoy the view and explore the mountain library to immerse yourself in adventures of times past, and savor the old dining rooms, where the flavors of Jotunheimen come to life in all their richness and simplicity.

After a challenging day in the mountains, the hotel's mountain spa, Hindholet Kultursauna, is the ultimate sanctuary for relaxation. The spa combines relaxation and mountain culture, built with timber from a barn that is hundreds of years old. For those who have booked a alp suite, the use of the mountain spa is included – an additional privilege that enhances your stay at Hindsæter.

Herangtunet Boutique Hotel (only available when booking 3 nights)

Amidst pristine nature and rough mountains you find yourself embraced by luxury, comfort and more. At Herangtunet, Norway hotel in nature, they aim to trigger all of their guests’ senses. To energize and spark creativity. It’s a philosophy they have translated into the individual character of each of the four spacious suites. Inspired by some of their favorite places around the world, they all have their own tales to tell and stories to share.

With the Heggefjorden at Viking’s stone throw away and the green woods as its backdrop, this is an excellent place to discover the beauty of the Valdes region from. In summer you are a few steps away from dipping into crystal clear water or trying your luck with a rod and some bait. Build your own fire of enjoy a BBQ meal near the lakes shore or spend the evening counting the endless stars of the galaxy outside your own frontdoor.

Day 2: Follow the giants

As the dawn breaks over Jotunheimen, a new adventure unfolds. You'll venture deeper into this mythical land, tracing the paths once tread by the giants of ancient lore. The journey will take you through rugged terrains, across sparkling streams, and up to breathtaking vantage points where the world seems to stretch endlessly before you. Each step reveals more of Jotunheimen's secrets, from hidden valleys to storied peaks. Embrace the spirit of the giants and let the majestic landscape inspire awe and wonder as you continue your exploration of this enchanting region.

The hotels you can choose on the second night are:

Røisheim Hotell

Beautiful Røisheim was originally an old posting station dating from 1858, and the protected buildings in the courtyard date from the 1700s. Røisheim has always been a natural stopping point on the journey between east and west. Sognefjellsveien is Norway's highest mountain pass and showcases the mountain from its most dramatic and beautiful side. It has a long tradition of looking after discerning mountain tourists with a spirit of adventure, whether they want to explore Jotunheimen's peaks or experience the ambience and fine dining of the old posting station and its protected buildings.

Set in a fertile landscape, the courtyard complex comprises 24 beautifully restored guest rooms in 14 buildings deemed worthy of preservation for their historical interest. Some of the rooms have an open fireplace, while others have four-poster beds or a hot tub in the bathroom. All the rooms have either a bathroom or shower en suite.

At Røisheim Hotell, every mealtime is a celebration. An exquisite three- or four-course dinner is served every evening, with ingredients and tastes from nature's treasure chest forming the natural starting point.

Fossheim Hotell

The hotel started out as a posting inn, opened in 1897 by the family Th. Garmo and is now run by the third and fourth generations of the same family.

Timber houses, built in harmony with good building tradition, and the hotel’s art and antiques help to create a special atmosphere you are sure to enjoy. A large courtyard with several old timber houses adds a special flavour, and we are particularly proud of our very best cottage – Gaukstadstugu – which is one of Norway's best-preserved 17th-century timber houses.

You might sense a tempting fragrance from the kitchen, alluring you down to the dining room. Ever since 1978 when Svein Garmo took over the wheel from his brother and started running the hotel, the hotel's main focus has been food and the use of local ingredients. Together with Arne Brimi that started in the kitchen the same year Svein took over, they built what is known as one of Norways best hotel kitchens.

On to new adventures

After checking out on the last day you are well rested, full of impressions - and ready for new adventures.

We can recommend following the National Scenic Route Sognefjellet down towards the fjord and the Historic Hotels of Skjolden Hotel or Walaker Hotel. If you head north you will reach the historic and gastronomic region of Trøndelag.
