Day 1 – Into the winter fjord

Your journey begins at 9:45 am, when the boat leaves Ålesund and takes you into one of the world’s most beautiful fjords. In winter the fjord is quiet, free of the summer traffic, and the mountainsides are covered in snow and ice. On board you are served a light lunch, coffee and tea, while Fjord Rangers tell you about the fjord landscape, the mountain farms and the waterfalls you pass. Around 1:30 pm the boat arrives in Geiranger. The hotel collects your luggage at the quay, so you can head straight out into the landscape. Together with Fjord Rangers you walk the Waterfall Walk along the river in the heart of the village, before visiting the Norwegian Fjord Centre to learn more about life and nature in the World Heritage fjord. Then a bus takes you up to Flydalsjuvet, one of the most famous viewpoints over the Geirangerfjord.

Around 3:00 pm you check in at Union, and the rest of the afternoon is dedicated to the spa and a warming sauna. At 7:30 pm we meet for an aperitif and storytelling in the hotel’s vintage car garage, before the evening ends with a three-course dinner in the restaurant.

Day 2 – Fjord, mountains and fireside evening

The day begins with breakfast and views over the fjord. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. If you want to get out into nature, you can join local guides on one of the optional activities. Go hiking or snowshoeing through the winter landscape, paddle a kayak on the calm fjord, or join local host Tomas Bakken for a fjord cruise and fishing trip. If you prefer a slower day, explore the village at your own pace or retreat to the spa. At midday a 2-course lunch awaits in the restaurant. As darkness falls, we gather at 7:00 pm around the fire pit for local beer and stories from the fjord and life in Geiranger. The evening ends with another three-course dinner.

Day 3 – One last fjord morning

Take your time over breakfast and enjoy your last morning by the fjord. If you would like one last experience before heading home, you can book an activity in the morning, or enjoy a final visit to the spa. You can keep your room until 2:00 pm, so there is no need to rush. Around 2:30 pm the hotel drives you down to the quay. The return to Ålesund is by boat or bus/car, depending on the date. On the boat you are served a light lunch on board and get one last chance to watch the fjord glide by. You are back in Ålesund around 7:00 pm, with two days in the World Heritage fjord to remember.
