Telemark, and especially the fruit village of Gvarv, has long been known for fruit and juice production. Now they are ready to conquer the cider market and YOU get to be part of the journey!

With long summer days, cool temperatures and little pollution, Telemark provides ideal growing conditions for fruit and berries that need to ripen over time. This climate results in apples of the highest quality - with the right flavours and providing exciting and tasty cider products that have been noticed in recent years.

Day 1 - Check-in at Søstrene Storaas


Your short break starts by checking in at Søstrene Storaas Hotel, a hotel with its own farm right behind the main house. At the hotel, you can experience a unique family history that began when the sisters inherited a crocodile in the early 2000s. They found out that the crocodile had eaten their great-great-grandfather's dog, and that their great-great-grandfather, Holger, had 8 daughters with three different women, from three different continents. Then they collected a whole book of stories from near and far that today characterize everything they do. The sisters welcome you to their childhood home!


Upon arrival (17:00) you will experience a farm walk and storytelling about the hotel followed by a tasty dinner from the hotel's kitchen which prides itself on local product from local producers and great flavours from its own kitchen garden.


The hotel has a large kitchen garden, pigs and sheep in the fields throughout the summer, and a high-tech run-to-waste garden that is operational all year round (plants grown indoors in water that is circulated). From here, the hotel gets herbs and ingredients used in cooking.


Day 2 - Cider safari in Telemark


Enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel before you on your own embark on the cider safari route in Telemark, which consists of two cider tastings and visits to three farms.


The first stop of the route is NeRø Frukt with its view of Gaustatoppen where the fruit trees can be reflected in Heddalsvannet and enjoy the sunshine from all directions. Here, they grow organic apples and cherries, which turns into organic cider and apple juice recognized all over Norway. The second stop of the route is Lien Gård, idyllically situated by Norsjø, in the heart of Telemark. Here they produce the finest cider from pure apple mash and often infuse the ciders with different berries to create unique flavors. Both NæRø Frukt and Lien Gård invites you for a guided tour and cider tasting at their farm. As a bonus we've also added a visit to Lindheim Ølkompani to your day. Here, there is no tasting, but the farm and farm shop are open for viewing and well worth the visit.


If you do not want to drive your own car, you can book transport. This can be added while booking. All the tastings offer good non-alcoholic alternatives for those who wish.
