Day 1: Welcome to Hardanger

Check in at one of our historic hotels in Hardanger and be mesmerized by the natural beauty and historic atmosphere. Breathe out and feel the fresh air as you gaze out on tall mountains and clear water in the fjord.

The hotels available in this package are:

Utne Hotel

Down by the ferry terminal in the tiny waterfront village Utne, surrounded by a charming garden with white picket fences and a stunning view of fjords and mountains, lies one of Norway’s oldest and best-preserved wooden hotels, Utne Hotel. This taste experience starts here, in the heart of Hardanger approx. 115 km from Bergen and 40 km from Voss.

With nearly 300 years of history embedded in its walls the hotel tells a tale of strong women and hostesses who have generously cared for and about their guests and their tiny village for centuries. The quintessential feeling of idyllic grandmother nostalgia hits you as soon as you touch the door handle. It is like coming home. Here you are welcomed with a warm and genuine smile.

The cider safari starts with a fun tasting at the hotel at 18:00. Here you’ll be given an introduction to the different styles and uses of cider. Prepare to be surprised by the range and quality!

After an excellent dinner a good night’s sleep awaits.

Hotel Ullensvang

Hotel Ullensvang, situated in the heart of Hardanger, approx. 115 km from Bergen and 40 km from Voss. Hotel Ullensvang’s history dates back to 1846. Today, the hotel has an impressive range of facilities, including the wonderful Ullensvang Bath with swimming pools indoors and outdoors, tennis court and restaurant serving dishes based on wonderful local produce. Located at the heart of beautiful Hardanger, the hotel is the perfect base for exploring the region.

Enjoy the facilities and historic surroundings and end each day with a dinner (served at 19:00). The cider adventure starts the day after arrival.

Day 2: The bubbling taste of Hardanger

After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast the adventure continues from the quay in Lofthus, just a 2-minute walk from the hotel, where you will board the fjord cruise that departs at 11:15. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the fjord while the crew transports you safely to Nå.

Upon disembarking you will be enjoying two different cider experiences of your choice, each easy to find from the quay. Some farmers will pick you up at the quay, while others are right next to it.

The Cider Experiences you can experience are:

Alde Sider

Alde is an old name for apple in Hardanger, and the man behind Aldi Sider is Olav Bleie. He runs the family farm where they have grown apples for generations. Alde Sider makes first class apple juice together with a wide selection of cider from Hardanger. You will be served classic, award-winning ciders combined with stories and a taste of Norwegian cheeses (Available in the last time slot)

Store Naa Siderkompani

The farm at Store Naa has been owned by the same family since 1724. Previously an abondoned chicken house, it has now been taken in use to develop and test new, exciting cider flavors. The cider tasting takes place in an open landscape or in the old, authentic cider cellar (Available both for the first and last time slot)

At the end of the cider experience you will be followed back to the quay where a delicious 2-course lunch awaits at Siderhuset Ola K. Ola K was the name of the merchant who in 1912 established a general store at Nå. The store became a place for the locals to get their goods and mail, and also functioned as a natural meeting place.

Now, 100 years later, the house has once again become a natural meeting place where Siderhuset Ola K sets the table for culinary experiences at the highest level with a constantly changing menu and inspiration from the surroundings. Naturally, the restaurant has a rich selection of ciders and wine, something for every taste!

On selected days you can choose to experience the award winning ciders from Aakre Gard instead of lunch. Arita and Gjermund Åkre creates innovative cider products found on renowned restaurants across Norway and abroad. Taste cider made the same way as Champagne and experience just why this cider is so unique. If the lunch at Siderhuset Ola K is unavailable this product will automatically be selected. Read your confirmation well to see which products are included in your itinerary.

After a day full of delicate tastes, you head back on the fjord cruise for your return. The boat departs from the quay in Nå at 15:05.

Day 3: Check out and new adventures

After a good night’s sleep, round off your short break with a hearty breakfast served with local apple juice.

Feel free to stay more nights and experience more of Hardanger. Here you can, among other things, walk Dronningsstien, one of HM Queen Sonja's favorite walks, go on a hike to Vøringsfossen waterfall or take a spectacular selfie on Trolltunga. See more experiences here.
