Day 1: Arrival in Finse

Our Rallarvegen experience starts in Finse, only accessible by train. The travelling time from Bergen is 2,5 hours. It takes approx. 4 hours from Oslo. You can find train schedules here.

Hotel Finse 1222 is located at the highest point along the Bergen Railway, at 1222 meters above sea level. It was first opened in 1909, at the same time as the Bergen Railway was completed. From the unique landscape, the story of the railway and the establishing of the small community of Finse - to the polar explorers, the filming of Star Wars and today’s adventurous nature lovers; Finse is covered by a historical and marvellous blanket. The hotel is found directly on the platform, overlooking the stunning glacier Hardangerjøkulen.

Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed at recently renovated Finse 1222. In collaboration with Snøhetta and local entrepreneurs, they’ve upgraded every part of the hotel, now featuring several new and exciting facilities. Naturally, every detail is done in line with the unique story of the place.

Enjoy the view and a delicious dinner served from 17:30 - 21:00. Remember to book your dining slot upon check-in.

Day 2: Rallarvegen and arrival in Flåm

After a good breakfast and packing your lunch, you pick up your bike from the bike rental near the hotel. The hotel will take care of your luggage and send it to Flåm (1 piece of luggage included). All you have to do is to adjust the saddle, fasten your helmet and get ready!

From here, you follow a marked trail and cycle along the pioneer road, which was built around the previous turn of the century in connection with the construction of the Bergen Line. Make sure to take breaks along the way to enjoy the scenery and take in the stunning sight of the towering mountains with Hardangerjøkulen to the west, and their enormous blankets of white and bright blue eternal ice.

Fagernut Guard’s House is situated roughly 10 kilometres west of Finse, owned by the Rallar Museum in Finse. The café is open during the bike season, offering waffles, coffee, and soft drinks. You’ll also get the chance to have a look inside the old guard’s house, where parts of the interior have been restored in line with the early period of the Bergen Line. A perfect stop along the way!

On arrival in Flåm, you’ll park your bike by the station and walk up to beautiful Fretheim Hotel. Here you will be greeted with a well-deserved “afterbike” with local beer from Ægir Brewery and tasty cured meats from Haugen Gardsmat. In the evening you can help yourself from the delicious dinner buffet. It’ll be served from 19:00 – 21:00.

Get a good night’s sleep in comfortable beds, and let today’s impressions sink in.

Day 3: Check-out and new adventures

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at Fretheim Hotel. You’re also welcome to explore the area before departure.

You can stay for an extra night and experience more unique sights in the area. We recommend a Fjord cruise in Nærøyfjorden, a ride in Flåm Zipline, or you can hike the stunning Aurlandsdalen Valley from Østerbø. Flåm Bakery serves delicious, fresh pastries.

Please note: The train journey to Finse and the return trip from Flåm is not included. You can book your journey directly at Vy.no.
