Day 1: Vibrant Ålesund

The first day you check in at Brosundet in the center of Ålesund. The city is widely known for the beautiful Art Nouveau architecture with a variety of towers, spiers and beautiful decorations. Take a walk in the city park, walk the famous stairs up to Aksla and the viewpoint Byrampen or go sea rafting! See different activities here.

Brosundet offers a different experience. From the delicate interior design, stunning artwork, antique beams to fresh local seafood all in company with the locals which has Brosundet as one of their favorite spots in town. The hotel's passion is to preserve the buildings as they originally were warehouses and significant to the fishery in small town Ålesund. As soon as you enter the hotel you will find inspirational design combined with an authentic story to tell. The outer walls of the hotel extend directly into the waters of Brosundet, Ålesund true town center. 

Have a well-deserved drink at Arkivet Bar and enjoy the warm and elegant atmosphere before heading to the hotel's restaurant, Apotekergata No 5. Take a seat, and enjoy a 4-course menu inspired by local food traditions from the Sunnmøre region combined with inspiration gathered from all over the world. Seasonal dishes are served with ingredients from local farms, fields and the sea. A menu where nature dominates, and seasons dictate.

Day 2: Tranquility suits you

On day 2 you make a move from the lively city to the tranquil countryside of Sunnmøre. You choose between either Storfjord or Union Øye, both unique hotels with the perfect combination of luxury and nature.

Storfjord is a secluded luxury boutique hotel situated in Glomset, on a hillside overlooking the Storfjord and the Sunnmøre Alps. Behind the handcrafted log walls awaits an experience you will not find anywhere else. Take in the familiar scent of timber, and enjoy looking at works of art and carefully selected antiques. Sit comfortably in designer furniture while drinking coffee and enjoy the magnificent view. While the view itself is well worth a visit, you will enjoy this beautiful haven from hectic life. The rooms at Storfjord are spacious and a comfortable place to stay. An inspiration where Norwegian traditions meets modern design.

Where the hotel meets the forest, you will find yourself in peaceful surroundings in the hotel's Wellness. Step inside and find rest in the cozy lounge and listen to the soothing sound of the forest from outside the window. Get in touch with nature in the outdoor jacuzzi and feel the sunshine or the soft touch of gentle raindrops on your face. If you want to enjoy treatments we recommend booking in advance. After a tasty 4-course dinner and good conversations in front of the fireplace, it is nice to retreat to the beautiful rooms and a lovely bed for a good night's sleep.

Union Øye is located in Hjørundfjord, the most majestic and secluded fjord in all of Norway. Sheer mountainsides rise from the deep fjord – this is the heartland of the Sunnmøre Alps. Ever since the 1850s, emperors and lords and mountaineers have sought out the sights along its shores. The dramatic combination of towering mountains, tranquil fjords and charming villages make this an unforgettable excursion.

The rooms, all of which are individually furnished with carefully selected antiques, are named after notables who have stayed here: Kaiser Wilhelm, King Oscar, Queen Maud and Princess Victoria; the authors Karen Blixen, Knut Hamsun and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; the composer Edvard Grieg, playwright Henrik Ibsen and the explorer Roald Amundsen, to mention but a few.

The highlight of the day is the 3-course dinner, composed by the chef with the best local ingredients of the season. The dinner is served in the dining room and followed by excellent tales of days long gone told in the Sun Lounge while you savour your coffee. Choose between seating at 18.30 or 20.30.

Please note: Both Storfjord and Union Øye has limited capacity. Based on capacity you might therefore not be able to choose between the hotels.

This short trip is based on driving your own car from Ålesund. If you want to fly to Ålesund, tickets must be booked separately.
